The SNUE Graduate School of Education is apivotal program in elementary education in Korea. The school offers26 different majors to foster expertise in various fields, whichallow in-depth studies in elementary education. We give currentin-service teachers opportunities for continuing education, andexpand their knowledge and practices in teaching.
Major in Elementary Ethics and CharacterEducation (master’s and doctorate)
Elementary ethics and moral subject plays a veryimportant role in ethics and moral education and personal characterdevelopment in elementary schools. The purpose is to train teacherswho have a professional competency to teach an ethics and moralsubject and researchers capable of conducting academic researches inthe field.
Major in Elementary Korean Language Education(master’s and doctorate)
The purpose is to develop top-notch Koreanlanguage professionals who will contribute to constructing thefoundation for nurturing children's awareness in their mother tongueand an ability to critically think and acquire the foundation forlearning Korean culture and strengthen the future of the Koreanlanguage education.
Major in Elementary Social Studies Education(master’s and doctorate)
The purpose is to develop professionals ofelementary social studies education in both theory and practice andthe graduates will have the competency to operate a field-friendlysocial subject in order to design activities as cooperative staff ofcolleges and as professionals of research institutions andgovernments.
Major in Elementary Mathematics Education(master’s and doctorate)
The purpose is to develop practicalprofessionals who are fluent in the theories in the field ofelementary mathematics education, as well as excellent elementarymathematics education professionals to play a pivotal role inelementary mathematics education.
Major in Elementary Science Education (master’sand doctorate)
Basic science education is necessary in thetimes of knowledge informatization and integrated science. Thepurpose is to support such a temporal flow and establish an academicidentity of elementary science education by cultivating elementaryscience education professionals equipped with practical capabilities.
Major in Elementary Physical Education (master’sand doctorate)
Theories and practice of elementary physicaleducation are presented for discussion and the purpose is to improveprofessional teaching competencies to connect professional knowledgeon elementary physical education courses with effective teachingskills and elementary physical education and to contribute toformulating a research atmosphere to improve physical educationclasses in the field.
Major in Elementary Music Education (master’s anddoctorate)
The program provides research courses forpractical ability, musical theories, and various educational theoriesequivalent to professional music education and the graduates willhave practical teaching competencies through workshops and fieldresearches.
Major in Elementary Fine Arts Education (master’sand doctorate)
The purpose is to develop professionals todesign and educate fine arts education programs for fosteringharmonized mindsets and creativity by seeking a balanced developmentof visual perception through producing and appreciating art works,while supplying students with the opportunities for self-ex-pression.
Major in Elementary Science & TechnologyEducation for Life (master’s)
The purpose is to develop professionals in thefield of integrated Science and Technology Education for Lifeincluding advanced living science such as food, clothing, housing, aswell as consumer life needed for scientific and routine everydaylife, engineering, environment, agriculture and career development.
Major in Elementary English Education (master’sand doctorate)
The purpose is to develop excellent elementaryEnglish education professionals equipped with competencies inpursuing academic researches and the practice of field education, andgraduates will obtain competencies of application in actual classesincluding overall knowledge on elementary English education, such aspractical teaching skills, etc.
Major in Elementary Computer Education (master’s)
The purpose is to develop educationprofessionals equipped with competencies for field practice inelementary computer education, and students will learn the basictheories of computer science, computer training, theories andutilization methods of various knowledge informatization elements.
Major in Liberal Education and Curriculum(master’s)
The purpose is to improve theoreticalunderstanding of and practical competency for elementary educationcourses and classes and various lectures such as historical andphilosophical foundation of elementary education, theories ofelementary education courses, and researches on the elementaryeducation field, etc. are provided.
Major in Elementary Education Administration(master’s)
As the demand for reasonable educationadministration and education management is gradually increased forthe qualitative improvement of elementary education, the program isintended to develop elementary education professionals equipped withtheories, practice, and research competency in educationadministration and education management areas.
Major in Early Childhood Education (master’s)
Temporal demand for cultivation of professionalsis being increased for dedication, researches, and practice in theearly childhood education field that is the first step of schooleducation. Therefore, the program is intended to develop in-depthearly childhood education professionals through academic researcheson the theories and practice of early childhood education linked withelementary education.
Major in Educational Psychology (master’s)
The purposes are to improve theoreticalexploration competency and practical competency for elementaryeducational psychology by conducting researches on the human mind andlearners, and prepare the foundation of overall teaching and learningperformances of elementary education through such an improvement.
Major in Counseling Education (master’s)
Students will seek the theories and methods ofcounseling and life guidance closely related to the field ofelementary school education and will obtain the competency to buildcounseling skills and programs and efficiently apply such skills inorder to promote development of and problem solving ability ofelementary school students.
Major in Elementary Special Education (master’s)
The program is intended to provide lectures onthe properties of and educational methods for children with learningor intellectual disabilities, emotional or behavioral disorders, ordevelopmental disabilities and to develop education professionals andleaders to show their practical and theoretical competencies inspecial education through cooperation with field professionals.
Major in Early Childhood Special Education(master’s)
It is an in-depth major for field professionalsof early childhood and special education fields requiringprofessionalism in early childhood special education. Students willseek knowledge and actual depth of both early childhood education andspecial education fields, and will improve their competency aseducation researchers.
Major in Unification, Peace, and CitizenEducation (master’s)
The purpose is to develop educationprofessionals and research manpower equipped with in-depth knowledgeon, vision of, and top-notch teaching competency for unification andinter-Korean relations. For this, various lectures on principles ofunification education, comparative studies on North and South Korea,unification policy, and national security, etc. are provided.
Major in Environment and Sustainable DevelopmentEducation (master’s)
Students will learn about teaching principlesand skills of environment education and improve their environmentalknowledge for active participation in solving environmental issues inorder to foster elementary students, who will be the leaders andcontributors of society in the future, as democratic-minded citizensactively taking roles in environmental issues.
Major in Global Education (master’s)
Students will improve their competencies forfield-friendly operations in terms of theories and practice in globalsocial & cultural education fields, while graduates will obtainthe foundation to act for classes and scholarship in a correspondingfield, as cooperative staff of colleges, and as professionals ofgovernments and research institutions.
Major in Creative Invention and IntegratedScience Education (master’s)
It is the first graduate school course forinvention education in Korea to develop professionals of theinvention education field and creativity guidance and lectures onbasics of invention education including invention education theoryand specialized invention lecture series are provided in relation toenergy, materials, engineering, universe, and the Patent Act, etc.
Major in Gifted Education (master’s)
The purpose is to develop professional manpowerfor elementary gifted education by understanding the contents andproperties of gifted education courses in fields such as mathematics,science, and information, etc. based on the theories of elementarygifted education, and by improving competencies to teach the giftedin each field and develop learning programs.
Major in Multicultural Education (master’s)
The purpose of multicultural education major isto cultivate theoretical and practical professionals in multiculturaleducation by seeking the theories of philosophy, goals, contents, andmethods of multicultural education and providing educationalopportunities on multicultural sensitivity and effectivemulticultural teaching & learning methods.
Major in Drama Education (master’s)
Drama Education maintains a high reputation as the first master's degree program established in Korea and, to this day, the only rigorous curriculum that requires a master’s thesis as a mandatory requirement. The purpose is to understand, experience, reflect and practice various challenges and possibilities of drama/theatre with education across the ages, curriculum, issues, and cultures.
Major in Museum and Gallery Education (master’s)
The purpose is to develop professional educatorsto play a pivotal role in qualitative improvement of museum andgallery education in elementary schools by developing museum andgallery education programs linked with schools and improvingprofessional teaching competencies.
Major in TESOL (master’s)
Theories and practice of English educationapplicable to the ages ranging from kindergarteners up to secondarystudents are presented for discussion and foreign language teachingmethods and opportunities for advanced fluency in the Englishlanguage are provided by professional native-speaking professors’lectures and lectures delivered in English.
Major in Children's Literature・Reading andWriting Education (master’s)
The purpose of the major is to train researchersand educational professionals equipped with competencies for boththeories and practice of children's literature, reading and essaywriting in order to contribute to qualified children's literature andreading and writing education in schools and society.
Major in Artificial Intelligence HumanityConvergence Education (master’s)
The purpose of the major is to provide varioushumanities courses along with artificial intelligence technologycourses to improve graduate students' academic ability and to helpthem excel in artificial intelligence-related classes at school.
Major in Educational Psychology, Counseling, andSpecial Education (doctorate)
It is an in-depth educational program to addressrecent situations of schools in relation to school violence,delinquency, and increase in those with special education needs, andthe purpose is to improve school psychology and counseling,theoretical understanding of overall special education, and practicalcompetencies thereof.
Major in Educational Policy and Leadership(doctorate)
As it has been pointed out that professionalcompetencies are required for holistic education in proportion to thedemand for responsibility of education in elementary schools, it isintended to develop policy-oriented, administrative, and educationalcourse professionals for early-childhood education and elementaryeducation fields.
Major in Elementary Science and TechnologyEducation for Life and Computer Education (doctorate)
The purpose is to develop professionals ofelementary science and technology education for life and computereducation by studying basic theories and sciences in this field andseeking the teaching and evaluation methodologies for promptapplication of such knowledge in elementary school education.
